Leadership Beyond the Stars: A Conversation with Christopher Loric

SESG YouTube Video

Leadership Beyond the Stars: A Conversation with Christopher Loric

What if humanity’s biggest leap wasn’t a new technology, but leading wisely through the unknown?
This was the thought-provoking question we explored in my latest episode of The Life Unscripted Podcast, featuring my guest, former Navy officer and science fiction author, Christopher Loric.

Christopher’s book SESG Explorer is not your typical space opera. It's a gripping narrative about leadership, courage, diplomacy, and the messy human experience of facing the ultimate unknown: first contact with alien life. Drawing from his 28 years of military experience, including service with the Navy, Marines, and Air Force and now reflections on the emerging Space Force, Christopher crafts a story grounded in realism and heart.

During our conversation, Christopher shared that the idea for SESG Explorer first sparked during his 2006 deployment to Iraq, when he observed firsthand the complex cooperation between military branches. He later wove these real-world dynamics into his futuristic tale, updating the book after his retirement to reflect the creation of the Space Force and evolving global dynamics.

One of the most compelling aspects of SESG Explorer is how Christopher portrays the alien Kamorrigans—not as purely evil or benevolent beings, but as flawed, complicated entities, much like humans. This nuance invites readers to grapple with moral dilemmas, political tensions, and the balance between diplomacy and war—topics that are strikingly relevant today.

Christopher also offered a sneak peek into the next installment of the trilogy, Minerva, in which humanity wrestles with whether to remain isolated or expand into the galaxy. Meanwhile, multiple missions run parallel: establishing colonies, building alliances, and facing off against unforeseen threats.

When asked what advice he would give to young dreamers inspired by space exploration, Christopher emphasized: "Follow what you love. Whether it's science, diplomacy, leadership, or technology, space needs all of it." He also passionately advocated for “space diplomacy” to prevent future conflicts beyond Earth.

And for those wondering, yes, Christopher believes in the possibility of extraterrestrial life. The universe’s vastness leaves room for endless possibilities, and he approaches this belief through a lens of both science and faith.

Christopher is working hard to release Minerva, complete the trilogy's final book, and even dabble in a sci-fi romance novel. There's no slowing down for this imaginative storyteller!

Exploring Family Legacy, Courage, and Craft with Chris Skates

Exploring Family Legacy, Courage, and Craft with Chris Skates

In a powerful new episode of The Life Unscripted Podcast with Rosabel, I sat down with the talented Chris Skates — novelist, chemist, former gubernatorial speechwriter, and master storyteller.

Chris’s latest novel, Moonshine Over Georgia, vividly recounts the untold stories of America’s Prohibition Era. Inspired by the real-life experiences of his grandfather, a courageous revenue agent in 1940s Georgia, Chris weaves historical truth, family legacy, and masterful fiction into an unforgettable tale of danger, resilience, and justice.

The Journey from Chemist to Storyteller

Chris’s path to becoming a full-time writer is a story in itself. Though encouraged by his teachers early on, he chose a pragmatic route, pursuing a career in chemistry for financial security. But storytelling has always remained close to his heart. After sharing a short story honoring his grandfather at a family reunion, the overwhelming response inspired him to pursue publishing. This led to magazine features, award-winning novels, and eventually, government speechwriting at the state and national levels, even crafting messages for President Trump and Vice President Pence.

The Heart Behind Moonshine Over Georgia

In our conversation, Chris shared how he deeply connected with his grandfather, who instilled in him storytelling traditions and a profound sense of honor and resilience. Moonshine Over Georgia captures the harsh realities of the illegal liquor trade and the devastating toll it took on families — a side rarely depicted in romanticized portrayals of moonshiners.

Chris revealed that writing this novel was like assembling a massive jigsaw puzzle: part real stories, part living witness interviews, and part creative weaving to fill the gaps. The result is a rich, authentic narrative that transports readers straight into the gritty streets and fields of 1940s Georgia, balancing brutal realities with the enduring humanity of the time.

From the Page to the Microphone

One of the most moving parts of our talk was hearing about Chris’s experience creating the audiobook for Moonshine Over Georgia. Although he initially attempted to narrate the story himself, he ultimately teamed up with a professional voice actor who vividly brought the characters—and the deep emotional heart of the story—to life. For Chris, hearing his grandfather’s story spoken aloud revealed even more layers of personal connection and healing.

Facing Life's Biggest Battles

Beyond his writing, Chris shared a deeply personal story of resilience: a harrowing battle with a rare and deadly form of leukemia, which he survived against overwhelming odds. His upcoming collection of short stories, Showdown at the Beanstalk, will blend humor and inspiration from his life, encouraging readers that survival and triumph are possible no matter the odds.

A Message to Fellow Creators and Dreamers

Our conversation resonated with a shared truth: storytelling is an act of courage. Whether it's overcoming self-doubt, revising until the work feels truly finished, or finding new ways to connect with readers in an increasingly noisy world, Chris and I believe in the transformative power of stories—not just for others but also for ourselves.

As Chris beautifully put it, "If I don’t write, I don't know how I would function."

Healing, Loss, and Connection: A Conversation with Jason Tuttle of Letters to Zachary

Healing, Loss, and Connection: A Conversation with Jason Tuttle of Letters to Zachary

Welcome to the Rosabel Unscripted blog, where we dive deeper into the conversations and stories that matter. In our latest episode, I spoke with Jason Tuttle, founder of Letters to Zachary, a healing community built on unimaginable loss and the power of vulnerability. Here’s a look at our conversation and the insights that can help every family navigate grief.

From Early Hope to Profound Loss

Jason and his wife embarked on their parenting journey with joy and anticipation. Their first son was diagnosed in utero with multiple severe conditions, including Eagle‐Barrett syndrome—a rare disorder affecting just 1 in 40,000 births. Despite the perinatal specialists’ worst‐case scenarios, his birth brought new challenges: neurological delays, non‐verbal status, and respiratory fragility that led to repeated hospital stays. Two years later, their daughter was born with nearly identical complications, compounding the family’s responsibilities and emotional load.

The Night Everything Changed

Years of endurance honed Jason’s caregiving instincts. So when, one February evening, his son suddenly refused to sleep, eat, or drink—and later developed a rock‐hard abdomen—Jason raced him to the children’s hospital. In the trauma room, a team of medical professionals fought for forty‐five minutes, even using defibrillation, but ultimately Jason’s boy slipped away in his arms. He later reflected on the surreal coldness of a life suddenly gone and the silent drive home, wheelchair empty beside him.

Journaling as a Bridge to Healing

Early on, Jason’s counselor suggested journaling. Hesitant at first, he began writing raw “letters” to his son. When he shared one in an all‐women grief group on Facebook, the response was overwhelming: parents said Jason’s words mirrored exactly how they felt. That validation sparked Letters to Zachary, evolving into a Facebook page, Instagram and TikTok channels, and a complete website where Jason publishes prose, poetry, and candid video reflections.

Challenging Misconceptions About Men and Grief

Our conversation turned to a key mission of Jason’s platform: rewriting the script on how men grieve. Society often frames male grief as stoic or short‐lived—“three days and back to work”—but Jason reminds us that grief is lifelong. He encourages men to:

  • Honor their emotions instead of burying them.
  • Speak openly, even just a short note or a social‐media post.
  • Seek community, knowing that vulnerability invites others to share their own pain.

He also gently educates loved ones—especially women—on supporting grieving men by listening to understand rather than “listening to respond,” and offering respect without minimizing a man’s emotional experience.

Practical Advice for Families

If you or someone you know has faced sudden loss, Jason’s guidance is simple and profound:

  1. Acknowledge that grief “sucks.” There’s no shame in admitting it’s hard.
  2. Allow your process. There is no right timeline—each journey is unique.
  3. Watch for signs of overwhelm. If dark thoughts turn toward self‐harm, reach out for professional help immediately.
  4. Lean on creative outlets. Writing, art, or even a grief‐themed coloring book can offer moments of calm and reflection.

One of Jason’s own mantras:
“Though we strive for the mountaintop, it is in the valley we live—and the valley builds the strength to climb again.”

Looking Ahead: Growing the Legacy

Jason isn’t done building. He dreams of speaking on live stages, sharing his message face‐to‐face with audiences who need permission to grieve authentically. He’s also published a grief coloring book—each page honoring a real child’s memory—that offers families a gentle way to remember and talk about loss together.

Writing Your Own Story: The Inspiring Resilience of Laura Vosika

Writing Your Own Story with Resilience – A Conversation with Laura Vosika

In the latest episode of The Life Unscripted Podcast with Rosabel Zohfeld, I had the privilege of sitting down with the truly remarkable Laura Vosika. Laura is not just a mother of ten—yes, ten!—but also a talented author, musician, podcast host, publisher, and the dynamic force behind Glenmirril Farms. Her story beautifully illustrates what it means to reinvent yourself through resilience and determination.

A Life Reinvented Through Courage and Faith

Laura’s journey hasn’t been easy. Growing up in a challenging home environment with alcoholic family dynamics, she faced immense pressure at a young age. Rather than succumb to her circumstances, Laura chose to take charge. She put herself through college at the age of eighteen, determined to author her own narrative.

In our conversation, Laura openly discussed the role faith played in guiding her life choices, from embracing motherhood with ten children to pursuing her passions for music and literature.

From Music and Publishing to Farming

Laura’s vibrant career as a musician began unexpectedly after initially struggling with musical lessons. She humorously recounts her rocky start with organ lessons and the eventual discovery of her true musical passion: the trombone. Her musical journey has led to unforgettable experiences, like playing at historic events and participating in orchestras and jazz bands.

Laura's passion for storytelling eventually led her to establish Gabriel's Horn Press. Her publishing journey began as a cooperative effort among fellow writers, but soon blossomed into something much larger, becoming a significant part of her identity.

Most recently, Glenmirril Farms was born in the tumultuous year 2020, turning a period of uncertainty into an opportunity to cultivate life, learning, and sustainability. With sheep, rabbits, chickens, and flourishing gardens, Laura and her family are embracing the joys and lessons of farming life.

Healing Through Storytelling

Laura’s candid reflection on writing as a powerful tool for healing resonates deeply. After experiencing a difficult marriage, she found writing novels cathartic and empowering, providing an avenue for self-discovery, healing, and personal transformation. She emphasizes the importance of gratitude, resilience, and personal responsibility in rewriting our stories.

Practical Steps Towards Resilience

Laura’s advice for listeners who feel stuck or overwhelmed is simple yet profoundly impactful: practice daily gratitude, take personal responsibility, and believe in your capacity to change your circumstances. She embodies the powerful truth that we can shape our destinies, no matter how challenging our past or present.

From Hidden Pain to Hidden Potential: Cari Rickabaugh’s Journey of Healing and Hope

From Hidden Pain to Hidden Potential: Cari Rickabaugh’s Journey of Healing and Hope

In the latest episode of The Life on Scripted Podcast with Rosabel, I had the honor of sitting down with a woman whose story left me deeply moved and inspired—Cari Rickabaugh, a licensed massage therapist, master bodyworker, trauma healing life coach, and a living embodiment of resilience.

Cari's journey is one of profound pain transformed into purpose. For three decades, she endured emotional, verbal, and mental abuse from within her own family. Her life looked "perfect" from the outside, but inside her home and heart was a different reality. That internal turmoil eventually took a toll on her physical and mental health—causing seizures, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and more.

But everything changed when a miracle arrived in the form of a friend and a life coach who helped her confront and process the trauma she thought she had buried. At the age of 45, after decades of darkness, Cari began her path to healing—not just mentally, but physically and spiritually.

What stood out most in our conversation was Cari’s unique understanding of trauma not just as an emotional experience, but as something that the body holds onto. As she shared, “When you start healing the mind, you can heal the body. And when you heal them at the same time, the changes are incredible.”

Cari’s healing has opened doors she never imagined—speaking at conferences, writing her story in the book A Journey of Riches: Unlock Your Hidden Potential, launching a mini podcast, and helping clients around the world rediscover their wholeness through a powerful combination of coaching, somatic work, and energy healing.

She reminded us that healing is not always linear. Sometimes, it means uncovering layers we didn’t know existed. Sometimes, it means doing it scared. And always, it means knowing that you are not too broken to be helped.

As Cari said so powerfully, “You can create—like I am—whatever life you want.”

Coming Home to Yourself: A Journey Through Healing and Narrative Transformation with Annie Emprima

Coming Home to Yourself: A Journey Through Healing and Narrative Transformation with Annie Emprima

On this episode of the Life Unscripted Podcast, I had the profound honor of sitting down with Annie Emprima-Martin, the founder of One Emprima. Annie is a guiding light in healing and transformation; her story is as profound as her work. With over two decades of experience helping people reclaim their voice, reshape their narratives, and return to the sacred space of their own bodies, Annie’s approach is both revolutionary and deeply human.

From Disempowerment to Empowerment

Annie’s journey began in a place of personal struggle. Coming from a dysfunctional background and facing challenges in the military, she experienced trauma and betrayal that became the soil in which her spiritual awakening took root. Through those painful experiences, she discovered a calling to help others heal—both emotionally and spiritually and physically.

She legally changed her name to Emprima, a symbolic and intentional act of reclaiming her identity. “There’s only one of me, just like there’s only one of you,” she says. Her mission? To help others tap into their inner superpowers and find clarity, conviction, and peace.

The Mural Method and Inner Narrative Work

Annie’s Mural Method invites people to revisit their past from a higher perspective, allowing for healing through understanding and energetic transformation. Clients walk through the mural of their story, witnessing younger versions of themselves and releasing emotional pain that no longer serves them.

She also offers Story Alchemy coaching for those new to metaphysical healing, a safe space to explore limiting beliefs and gently connect with body and spirit.

Transformation in Action

Annie has helped clients reverse fibromyalgia, ease PTSD, and even regain vision. Though she humbly calls them "anomalies," the results speak for themselves. Her work emphasizes the body-mind-soul connection and complements traditional medical and mental health care.

The Power of Presence, Breath, and Community

“We need witnesses in our lives,” Annie said during our conversation. She explained that community acts as a natural antidepressant. She taught us about six layers of belonging and how physical presence and connection help us regulate our emotions.

And it all begins with breath. Mindful breathing, she explains, is one of the gentlest first steps toward healing. It’s free, simple, and always available.

Staying Grounded While Helping Others

To remain grounded, Annie practices hot yin yoga and long walks—activities that clear trauma stored in the body while calming the mind. She reflects on her own story with compassion and curiosity and meets herself with grace, just as she encourages others to do.

Final Words of Encouragement

“When we heal ourselves, we permit others around us to heal too.” That’s the heart of Annie’s message—and a powerful reminder that healing can be personal and communal.

Hope Lives: A Conversation About Leadership, Resilience, and the Power of Presence

Hope Lives: A Conversation About Leadership, Resilience, and the Power of Presence

By Rosabel Zohfeld | Life Unscripted Podcast

In this moving episode of the Life Unscripted Podcast, I had the honor of speaking with Dan Shaker, the founder of HopeLives LLC, a certified behavioral analyst trainer, and a member of the John Maxwell Team. Our conversation unpacked what it truly means to lead with intention, live with courage, and show up with compassion—even when life gets hard.

From Setbacks to Service

Dan’s journey into entrepreneurship wasn’t born out of convenience but out of necessity and heart. After years of working with leaders worldwide, Dan saw how lonely the path to entrepreneurship can be. So he built HopeLives, a space for small business owners and visionaries to recharge, relaunch, and reconnect with their purpose.

Lessons from Near-Death Experiences

In 2001, Dan had a near-death experience while whitewater rafting that changed his life forever. A few weeks later, he witnessed the 9/11 attacks as a high school senior. Those back-to-back traumatic events sparked a life of service and a passion for helping others embrace the present and lead with authenticity.

Leadership, the HopeLives Way

Dan teaches three powerful rules of leadership based on integrity, commitment, and care:

  • Do Right: Build trust through consistent actions.
  • Do Your Best: Commit to excellence in everything you do.
  • Show You Care: People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Through HopeLives, Dan offers workshops, coaching, and resources that help leaders reset, recharge, and relaunch—bringing humor and humanity into every step of the journey.

My Story: Courage in Every Chapter

During this episode, I also opened up about my journey from Colombia to the United States. I lost my mother at 17, moved to a new country with no family or English skills, and worked for over a decade to become a nurse practitioner. My book, The Courage to Succeed: A True American Dream, captures that story and the lessons I've learned about perseverance, identity, and creating a meaningful life.

Be Present, Not Perfect

Dan reminded us that presence is a gift. In a noisy, distracted world, giving someone your full attention is rare—and transformative. Whether it's your children, your business, or your dream, show up fully. That’s how we build trust. That’s how we lead.

Just a Tad Bit Smarter: Real Talk with Tadd E. Lane

Just a Tad Bit Smarter: Real Talk with Tadd E. Lane

By Rosabel V. Zohfeld

Clarity can feel like a rare gem in a world filled with information overload, fast-paced healthcare visits, and overwhelming medical jargon. My guest on Life Unscripted brought exactly that—clarity, connection, and compassion.

Meet Tadd E. Lane, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner, wound care specialist, and the host of Tadbit with Tadd: Just a Tad Bit Smarter. Tadd has walked the walk through hospitals, emergency rooms, homes, hospice, and beyond. But what sets him apart is how he brings warmth, humor, and real talk to health conversations—no white coat intimidation here, just genuine, grounded wisdom.

From Insomnia to Impact

Tadd shared that his podcasting journey began during long nights of insomnia and a constant stream of health questions from friends and acquaintances. Instead of sending a million texts, he thought, why not start a podcast? And so, Tadbit with Tadd was born—a space where listeners can become just a tad bit smarter about their health and life.

What started as simple health advice has grown into something deeper. His show now includes real stories and conversations about burnout, boundaries, and the emotional side of care. It’s a platform that reminds people that they’re not alone in their journey.

The Power of Practicality

One of my favorite takeaways from our conversation was Tadd’s emphasis on small, practical shifts. Whether swapping out hash browns for fruit or being mindful about your soda intake, Tadd reminds us that transformation doesn’t always come from significant, flashy changes—it starts with the tiny, daily choices.

He also opened up about a listener from his own church who reached out after hearing his episode on weight management and diabetes. It was a powerful moment—proof that sometimes we’re helping people without even knowing it. That’s the beauty of podcasting: our voices go where we can't see.

A Raw Conversation on Health, Burnout, and Humanity

Tadd and I discussed everything from healthcare communication gaps to processed food and even Michelangelo memes! We laughed, nodded in agreement, and had one of those rare, unfiltered conversations that reminds you of the power of real connection.

And when asked what he’d want anyone feeling overwhelmed to know, Tadd said something that hit me deep: "You are not alone. Someone has walked your path before. Find your community and take it one breath at a time."

Reclaiming Joy and Identity After Motherhood: A Conversation with Tori Whitaker

Reclaiming Joy and Identity After Motherhood: A Conversation with Tori Whitaker

Motherhood is often described as beautiful, messy, transformative, and sometimes overwhelming. On a recent episode of The Life Unscripted Podcast, I had the privilege of sitting down with the fierce and inspiring Tori Whitaker, founder of BeBetterAfterBaby.com. Her story is one of deep resilience, radical self-love, and a mission to help women rediscover themselves after one of life’s most intense transitions: becoming a mom.

From Surviving to Thriving

Tori’s journey began with unimaginable challenges—leaving her marriage when her baby was just six months old, surviving domestic abuse, and rebuilding her life from the ground up. With no family nearby and limited support, she found herself living in a battered women’s shelter with her infant in tow. But she didn’t stop there. She used every setback as fuel to rise.

Now, as a mindset coach and founder of Better After Baby, Tori empowers moms to reclaim their identity, prioritize their wellness, and live in what she calls “main character energy.”

Why Better After Baby?

Initially chosen for its catchy alliteration, “Better After Baby” has evolved into a powerful mantra for transformation. Tori created this platform not just for postpartum fitness or nutrition, but as a complete mindset reset. Through her signature 90-Day Rise and Thrive Program, she offers moms a holistic approach that includes:

  • Simple, sustainable fitness routines
  • No-calorie-counting nutrition guidance
  • Weekly mindset coaching sessions
  • Ongoing community support

The goal? To help women become stronger in their bodies, clearer in their minds, and unapologetically themselves again.

Breaking the Martyr Mom Myth

Tori challenges the cultural narrative that good moms must sacrifice everything. “You were her before the kids,” she says. “You’re still her now.” Instead of subscribing to martyrdom, she encourages moms to be visible examples of health, boundaries, and joy for their children, not just their caretakers.

Small Wins, Big Shifts

One of the key philosophies Tori shares is the importance of micro wins: small, daily acts of self-care that compound into major transformation. Whether eating a nourishing meal, walking, or simply enjoying a quiet moment alone, these seemingly simple actions can reshape how we see ourselves.

The results are real. Tori shared the story of a client who, just six weeks into the Rise and Thrive program, reignited her joy, rebuilt her confidence, and even began reconnecting in her marriage. “She went from barely functioning to glowing,” Tori said with pride.

Tori’s Message to Moms Everywhere

“You are worth it,” Tori reminds us. “You don’t have to choose between being a good mom and being a whole woman. You can be both.”

Whether you're navigating single motherhood, dealing with postpartum depression, or simply trying to rediscover your sense of self, Tori offers not just hope but real, actionable guidance.

Rewiring Addiction and Reclaiming Life: A Conversation with Dr. Robb Kelly

Rewiring Addiction and Reclaiming Life: A Conversation with Dr. Robb Kelly

In a world where second chances often feel out of reach, Dr. Robb Kelly’s story is a reminder that transformation is always possible, no matter how deep the pain or how dark the path. On this deeply moving episode of The Life Unscripted Podcast, I had the honor of sitting down with Dr. Robb Kelly, a world-renowned neuroscience coach and author, and living example of what it means to rewire your life from the inside out.

From sleeping on the cold streets of Manchester to transforming thousands of lives through the power of brain science and compassion, Dr. Kelly's journey is one of resilience, redemption, and radical honesty.

From Rock Bottom to Recovery

Dr. Kelly bravely shared the raw details of his past—growing up in an alcoholic household, drinking by the age of nine, losing everything to addiction, and hitting rock bottom when he found himself homeless and hopeless. But one desperate cry to the sky—“If there is a God, I can’t do this on my own”—marked the beginning of his transformation.

Trauma: The Hidden Root of Addiction

One of the most eye-opening aspects of our conversation was Dr. Kelly’s insight into trauma as the actual gateway drug. He explained how unresolved childhood trauma, even when it seems insignificant or forgotten, can shape a person’s entire emotional and behavioral landscape. “Trauma is patient,” he said. “It waits in the subconscious until life begins to unravel.”

His message? Healing is possible—but only when we confront and release those buried wounds.

Healing Through the Body and Brain

Dr. Kelly introduced us to some of the groundbreaking modalities he uses with his clients, including:

  • Somatic experiencing helps the body release stored trauma.

  • 9D therapy and brain spotting to rewire thought patterns and emotional responses.

  • Red light therapy to support gut health, which is crucial for producing serotonin and dopamine—the brain’s happy chemicals.

He emphasized that healing addiction isn't just about quitting the substance; it's about changing the entire environment, internally and externally.

Busting the Myths of Addiction

In our conversation, Dr. Kelly dismantled some of the most damaging myths about addiction, including:

  • “Once an addict, always an addict.” False.

  • “You can’t get better overnight.” False.

  • “Medication alone can fix it.” False.

He argues that a holistic approach involves neuroscience, personal accountability, spiritual connection, and real community support.

A Vision for the Future: The Robb Kelly Foundation

Dr. Kelly's mission extends beyond coaching. He and his wife are building a 100-bed facility through the Robb Kelly Foundation. They will offer free recovery support that includes children, revolutionizing how families heal together. This initiative is a full-circle response to a profoundly broken system, from housing assistance and job training to trauma-informed schooling.

And guess what? He hires felons, supports the homeless, and gives generously because, in his words, “I got a second life in one lifetime—and I want others to have the same.”

Words That Heal

One story that stuck with me deeply was about a man who wrote a suicide note saying he’d jump off the Golden Gate Bridge unless someone smiled at him on the way there. No one did. That heartbreaking moment fuels Dr. Kelly’s mission to ensure no one feels unseen, unheard, or unloved.

πŸ’¬ Final Thoughts

Dr. Robb Kelly’s story is not just about addiction recovery—it’s about the power of choice, healing through neuroscience, and remembering that it’s never too late to start again. Whether you’re struggling or know someone who is, this episode is a beacon of hope.

Now it's your turn—take that small step:

Reclaiming Your Power: A Life Unscripted Conversation with Maggie Boillot

πŸ”₯ Reclaiming Your Power: A Life Unscripted Conversation with Maggie Boillot

What if everything you need to create the life you want is already inside you?

On a recent episode of the Life Unscripted Podcast, I had the absolute joy of sitting down with Maggie Boillot, a powerhouse keynote speaker, self-discovery mentor, and host of The Power Shift podcast. Maggie is the founder of Power Within Her, Inc., and she's on a mission to help women unapologetically reclaim their voices, rediscover their worth, and boldly live the lives they were meant to live.

From the moment we hit "record," the energy was electric. Maggie shared how she spent over a decade living someone else’s version of a dream until one morning, she woke up and decided she was done settling. She was tired of her own BS—as she put it—and ready to choose differently.

πŸ”‘ The Shift Begins Within

The Power Within Her movement began with Instagram journal entries—raw reflections from Maggie’s healing and empowerment journey. From there, it evolved into community building, 1:1 mentoring, coaching, and public speaking. Now, Maggie is hosting the Power Shift Podcast, where she shares personal stories and amplifies others’ voices navigating similar transformations.

We discussed The Reclaim Your Power Summit, which she co-hosted alongside Sammy. The summit featured 12 incredible women who spoke about alignment, confidence, self-love, and truth. Maggie reminded us that we all start somewhere, and the most powerful transformations often come from ordinary decision-making moments.

πŸ’ From Self-Doubt to Self-Discovery

One of the most profound takeaways from our conversation was Maggie’s insight into the most significant obstacle she sees in her work: self-doubt. That inner critic. That whisper of “Who am I to do this?”

But she doesn’t just leave her clients there. She helps them enter their unapologetic, joyful, “weird,” vibrant selves. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being real—about being yourself out loud.

“You don’t find courage. You create it.” — Maggie Boillot

🌿 Creating a Life You Love, 90% of the Time

Maggie also shared her new project for 2025: launching an exclusive women’s empowerment community designed to be a full-body, full-soul experience. It’s for the woman who knows there’s more to life, but doesn’t quite know where to begin. Together, they’ll laugh, cry, grow, and ignite the fire within.

The key? Becoming aware.

She left us with a powerful acronym: AWARE

  • Acknowledge what’s happening

  • Willingness to grow and change

  • Align with what lights your soul

  • Release what no longer serves

  • Experience a more fulfilling life

This isn’t just a formula—it’s a way of life.

🎧 Ready to Shift?

If you felt seen by this conversation, you’re not alone. Maggie’s story reminds us that change doesn’t begin with giant leaps—it starts with a decision to listen to that quiet inner voice that says: You were made for more.

Unsung Stories of Courage and Healing: A Conversation with Dave Murphy

Unsung Stories of Courage and Healing: A Conversation with Dave Murphy

On this episode of Life Unscripted with Rosabel, I had the absolute joy of sitting down with a remarkable human being: Dave Murphy, host of The Unsung Podcast and author of two deeply moving children’s books. Our conversation was laced with moments of raw honesty, laughter, reflection, and mutual encouragement, all underscored by a shared mission: to use our voices and platforms to lift up the stories that often go untold.

From Trauma to Triumph

Dave’s story is one of profound resilience. In 1994, he survived a violent knife attack that left him with physical and emotional scars. Struggling with PTSD for over two decades, Dave turned to alcohol and unhealthy habits as a way to cope—until his daughter became his turning point. Her simple desire to race her dad home from the playground, and his inability to keep up, sparked a life-changing transformation.

Over several years, Dave lost 170 pounds, gave up alcohol, and completely rewired his lifestyle—all while raising his daughter and finding joy in their shared journey toward health and healing.

A Voice for the Unsung

That same little girl who sparked his transformation also inspired his first book, The Great Race: My Daddy and Me. It's more than a children’s story; it's a symbol of hope for families seeking a healthier path. His second book, In the Heart of the Forest, uses the metaphor of a fox facing its fears to discuss trauma and courage, touching readers of all ages and backgrounds.

But Dave didn’t stop there. He launched The Unsung Podcast, a space to highlight the real, raw, and remarkable stories of people who rarely make the headlines. From blind mountain climbers and Special Olympians to domestic abuse survivors and everyday heroes, Dave’s podcast celebrates human strength in its quietest, most potent forms.

Music, Humor, and the Courage to Share

What I admire most about Dave is his humility. Whether he’s nervously performing guitar at a church concert (sober, for the first time!) or reading his book in Spanish with a Puss-in-Boots accent, Dave brings sincerity and humor to everything he does. We laughed about awkward language learning moments and bonded over emotional movie scenes (Titanic, anyone?).. We talked about how the smallest acts—like showing up or looking someone in the eye—can be transformative.

Our conversation also touched on:

  • How Dave’s viral transformation post got picked up by Arnold Schwarzenegger (and how he handled the trolls).

  • His live mental health open mic project, “Rock and Resilience.”

  • The importance of consistency and joy in podcasting, even when the numbers don’t seem impressive.

  • We both believe deeply in sharing our stories—not for fame, but for impact.

Final Words of Wisdom

Dave gave us a simple but powerful message: “If you’re struggling, talk to someone. Just get through the next five minutes. Your day can start over at any time.”

He also reminded us that the size of your audience doesn’t matter—what matters is who you reach. As he said, “If your episode has 52 plays, but one person writes you to say it saved their life? That’s the only play that counts.”

Strong Moms, Strong Families: A Conversation with Meg Kuhnle

Strong Moms, Strong Families: A Conversation with Meg Kuhnle

In this heartwarming episode of the Life Unscripted Podcast, I had the incredible pleasure of sitting down with Meg Kuhnle—aka The Capable Mom Coach—for a conversation that felt like two moms sharing a deep, needed breath together.

Meg is a certified Life, Health, Wellness, and Menopause Coach and the heart behind MegaThrive Coaching. With over 15 years of experience, a degree in Exercise Science, and three kids of her own, she’s no stranger to motherhood's wild, beautiful chaos.

When our conversation began, Meg’s authenticity and compassion poured through. She reminded us that being a mom isn’t about doing everything—it’s about learning to make space for ourselves and our families without losing who we are.

Letting Go of Guilt and Overwhelm

One decisive moment came when we discussed the ever-present feeling that we’re never doing “enough.” Whether folding mountains of laundry or trying to keep up with healthy meals, we often live with a persistent inner critic. Meg’s advice? Start by telling yourself, “I’m doing pretty well right now.” Because chances are, you really are.

She also shared how tuning into your nervous system—yes, even pausing to ask yourself, “What do I need right now?”—can be a game-changer. It's not just about external help (though we need that, too); it’s about internal compassion.

The Invisible Load of Motherhood

We laughed about our kids making plans for lunch without informing the grown-ups (because,, of course,, they did). We reflected on how being a mom means being the ship's captain, the household's leader. While that title can feel heavy, Meg encouraged us to see it as empowering.

“You are doing way better than you think you are,” she said—and I felt that truth in my bones.

Energy Drains and How to Reclaim Yourself

Meg broke down the layers of tiredness we experience as moms—physical, emotional, mental, and sensory—and why a one-size-fits-all solution won’t cut it. Her practical, grace-filled tips like drinking water, stepping outside without your phone, or putting your feet up for just five minutes were simple, accessible ways to start caring for our energy again.

Identity After Motherhood

Perhaps the most profound part of our talk was exploring identity. Who are we beyond the laundry, tantrums, and school pickups? Meg reminded us that it’s okay if our hobbies change or our priorities shift. What matters is staying connected to who we are becoming—not just who we were.

And don’t underestimate the power of a simple, honest question: “How are you?” Especially when we ask it of ourselves.

Awaken Your Inner Guide: A Soulful Conversation with Ellie LalibertΓ©

Awaken Your Inner Guide: A Soulful Conversation with Ellie LalibertΓ©

Published by Rosabel Zohfeld | Life Unscripted Podcast | April 2025

“No one is to be blamed for your triggers, as they are all mirrors of you.” — Ellie LalibertΓ©

Rediscovering the Voice Within

Have you ever felt like something deeper within you was trying to speak? A voice beyond the noise, the to-do lists, the pain—one that holds peace and power? That’s the essence of my recent conversation with Ellie LalibertΓ©, writer, spiritual guide, and author of Letters From You to You: Awaken Your Power Through Conversations with Your Higher Self.

Ellie’s book offers 21 poetic, potent letters written from the voice of our inner being—guiding us through emotional healing, surrender, grief, and self-realization. These aren’t just pages to read—they're letters to live.

πŸ“– Letters From You to You is available on Amazon and Audible. Visit lettersbyellie.com to learn more.

What It Means to Live from Your Authentic Self

In our conversation, Ellie explained the difference between the default self (our conditioned ego identity) and the authentic self (our inner being). Naming her inner self “Ellie” helped her distinguish between reaction and presence.

“When I react from fear, I ask: am I being Michelle or Ellie right now?”

This daily practice of self-awareness creates space for transformation, especially in challenging moments. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being present.

Emotional Triggers Are Mirrors, Not Enemies

One of my favorite insights from Ellie’s book is the reframing of emotional triggers. Instead of labeling them as bad or shameful, she encourages us to view them curiously. Triggers reveal patterns—often rooted in childhood—that are ready to be healed.

If you’ve been cut off in traffic and stewed over it for hours, you’ve experienced how the ego clings to stories. But with practice, we can witness the reaction, pause, and respond gracefully.

πŸ™ Spiritual growth begins with self-observation. It continues with compassion.

Make Space, Not Time

Ellie beautifully explains that your inner being isn’t asking for more hours in your day but for space in your heart. Whether washing dishes, sitting in traffic, or caring for your family, you can shift your awareness and invite your authentic self into that moment.

“Time is already there. It’s space we need to create.”

Embracing the Unknown

Letting go of control is a common struggle,  especially during life transitions. But Ellie reminds us that the unknown isn’t something to fear. It’s where freedom lives. When we stop trying to grip everything so tightly, we make room for life to surprise, heal, and guide us.

Daily Practices for Inner Peace

Here are a few practices Ellie swears by:

  • Silent meditation every morning (40–60 minutes)

  • Witnessing thoughts without judgment

  • Allowing emotions to be fully felt and released

  • Naming her authentic self as a daily check-in tool

🧘‍♀️ “If you can’t sit with yourself in silence, you’ll always be at conflict with others.”

Gentle Words for Heavy Days

For anyone navigating grief, loss, or emotional overwhelm, Ellie offers this tender guidance:

“Let yourself feel everything. Sit in the discomfort. Your higher self is already speaking—you just need to make space to listen.”

Sometimes the most radical thing we can do is not rush our healing.

What’s Next for Ellie?

Ellie is wwritinga new book faboutpracticing witness consciousness and plans to launch silent retreats where readers can emore effectively ngage with her letters  These retreats will offer space for reflection, stillness, and deep connection to yone'shigher self.

When Advocacy Becomes a Lifeline: A Conversation with Melissa Winger

When Advocacy Becomes a Lifeline: A Conversation with Melissa Winger

Episode Recap: Life Unscripted Podcast with Rosabel

Author Melissa Winger joins the Life Unscripted Podcast to share her journey as a mother advocating for her son with complex medical needs. In this powerful episode, she reveals the emotional toll of navigating a broken healthcare system—and why her story is a call to action for all of us.

🩺 Real Stories, Real Impact

In a profoundly moving episode of The Life Unscripted Podcast with Rosabel, I interviewed Melissa Winger, a mother, advocate, and author of Who Cares? The Real Patient Experience. Melissa’s story is a testament to what it means to advocate not just with passion but with resilience—through heartbreak, finterviewednd moments of isolation that many families quietly endure.

Melissa became a mom at 18, stepping into a world of medical unknowns when her son was born with rare genetic conditions that went undiagnosed for months. From being dismissed by ER staff to navigating a maze of home health agencies, she quickly realized that families like hers aren’t just underserved—they're often unheard.

“Why am I always having to defend my child’s existence?” she asked. A question no parent should ever have to voice.

πŸŽ™ What We Talked About

In our conversation, Melissa opened up about:

  • The emotional toll of long-term medical caregiving and advocacy.

  • What’s broken in the healthcare system—and how poor reimbursement and high burnout drive providers and families alike to the brink.

  • How can we advocate without becoming adversarial, and why does a partnership approach often yield better care?

  • Moments of light, like when a single pediatrician simply said, “You’re doing a great job.” Those words changed everything.

Melissa’s story goes beyond one family—it’s a lens into the lives of thousands navigating fragmented care systems while trying to live fully and love deeply.

πŸ“– About Who Cares?

Melissa’s book isn’t just her story—it’s an exposΓ© on the structural failures of our healthcare system, backed by deep research. Each chapter begins with a personal experience and evolves into a broader discussion about systems like home care, patient safety, and the la deep-researchedg-term impact of inaccessible or dismissive healthcare.

If you’re a caregiver, a provider, a policymaker—or simply someone who wants to understand what genuine patient-centered care should look like—this book is for you.

Embracing Neurodivergence: A Conversation with Rebecca Engle

Embracing Neurodivergence: A Conversation with Rebecca Engle

By Rosabel V. Zohfeld

In a powerful and profoundly insightful episode of the Life Unscripted Podcast, I sat down with Rebecca Engle, an author, teacher, and passionate advocate for neurodivergent individuals. Her journey from a non-speaking child to a voice for thousands is not just remarkable—it’s revolutionary.

Rebecca was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. At the time, she only spoke 22 words by age five and was told by professionals that she would never live independently. Today, she is an educator, author of Step Into My Shoes, and a member of the Autism Community Networks Advisory Board. She is also preparing to release her second book, Tangled and Silent Norms, a resource designed to break down barriers in understanding the neurodivergent experience.

A Story of Resilience and Advocacy

Rebecca shared how traditional educational environments often rewarded masking—suppressing natural behaviors to fit into rigid systems—while punishing authenticity. Her early experiences left her feeling unseen and unheard, but with the support of her mother and a few key teachers, she learned to self-advocate and push against the limiting beliefs society tried to place on her.

“Don’t let people peel your stickers off,” Rebecca said.
She uses the metaphor of a Rubik’s cube to describe the beauty of complexity—and the importance of solving, not shortcutting, life’s unique puzzles.

From the Classroom to the Conference Stage

Rebecca’s advocacy began not in a boardroom but on the playground—as a young girl, offering advice to special ed teachers. Since then, she’s become a powerful voice in the autism and neurodivergent community. Her first book, Step Into My Shoes, gives readers a firsthand look into the everyday experience of a special education student. Readers from all walks of life have found themselves reflected in its pages.

Her upcoming release, Tangled and Silent Norms, arrives May 1 and is designed for adults—especially parents and educators—who want a clearer, more compassionate understanding of neurodivergence. It’s short, approachable, and grounded in research, to inspire further learning and empathy.

What We Can All Do

Rebecca offered practical, heartfelt advice on how society can move beyond mere “awareness” into true celebration of neurodivergence:

  • Assume competence. Everyone processes and communicates differently—start by believing in their abilities.

  • Honor all forms of communication. Speech is not the only way people express themselves.

  • Redefine success. Let go of outdated, one-size-fits-all metrics.

  • Respect sensory needs. Fidgets, headphones, movement, and non-traditional classroom behaviors are not distractions but tools.

  • Create connection over control. Building trust matters more than enforcing compliance.

Connect with Rebecca

Rebecca is committed to helping others better understand and support neurodivergent individuals. You can connect with her through:

Prevention Before Desperation: Changing the Conversation on Suicide

πŸŽ™️ Prevention Before Desperation: Changing the Conversation on Suicide

By Rosabel V. Zohfeld

“Having a conversation might just save a life.”

In one of the most heartfelt episodes of Life Unscripted Podcast, I sat down with two extraordinary people whose personal experiences and advocacy are reshaping how we approach suicide prevention. Deborah Susan—author, suicide attempt survivor, and certified HCA—joined us alongside Brian Wardale, whose deeply layered story includes caregiving, grief, trauma, and survival.

Together, they’ve created a bold and compassionate initiative: SurvivorsofHopelessness.com, a program rooted in early prevention and emotional education. Their mission is clear—prevention must happen before desperation sets in.

πŸ” Prevention Over Intervention

Today’s model of mental health care is reactive. Deborah and Brian are determined to shift that by creating tools for youth—especially ages 8 to 13—so they can develop emotional intelligence before reaching crisis.

“We teach them to understand the bigger picture,” Deborah said. “Hopelessness can feel like the end. But it isn’t.”

❌ Debunking Common Myths About Suicide

Brian helped us dismantle one of the most harmful assumptions:

“People who die by suicide don’t want to die. They want to escape pain.”

They also challenged the idea that talking about suicide encourages it. On the contrary, silence breeds misinformation. Kids are already hearing about suicide—from TV, friends, and social media. If parents avoid the topic, they risk leaving their children vulnerable to dangerous myths.

“If you're not talking about it, someone else is,” Brian said. “And you won’t know where they're getting their information.”

πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘¦ What Parents and Caregivers Must Know

Deborah was clear:

“Teaching your kids about suicide is as important as teaching them to cross the street or wear a seatbelt.”

By initiating honest, age-appropriate conversations about emotional pain and resilience, parents can become a crucial line of early defense. Their program offers a simple, one-hour video and companion workbook designed to be accessible and transformative.

πŸ’” My Personal Story: From Survivor to Advocate

This episode hit home. I lost my mother to suicide as a teenager. A counselor once told me, “Statistically, you might do what your mother did.” That moment fueled something in me: a refusal to be defined by statistics and a deep belief in individuality.

“Each of us is born with unique fingerprints—how can we be anything but unique souls?”

I shared this on the podcast because I want others who’ve been left behind by suicide to know—they’re not alone. There is healing in truth.

πŸ–Ό️ Insert Image Here:

Prompt:

“A teenage girl standing alone in a school hallway, light shining from a window, symbolizing resilience after loss.”

πŸ” From Pain to Purpose: How Deborah and Brian Teamed Up

Their partnership started through a chance connection in hospice care. What followed was years of collaboration, healing, and the creation of an educational tool that fills a gap in the world of mental health.

They speak with sincerity, humor, and depth—and their lived experience is their most powerful credential.

“This isn’t just a conversation,” Brian said. “It’s a responsibility.”

🧠 Recharging the Heart: How Advocates Protect Their Energy

Both guests shared how important it is to set emotional boundaries after sharing such intense stories. They recharge through solitude, music, personal rituals, and quiet reflection.

Whether introverted or extroverted, they both agree:

“You can’t pour from an empty cup.”

❤️ What Can You Do?

Start with kindness. Tell someone they matter. Ask how they’re really doing. Share a memory of when they made a difference in your life. You may never know how much it means—or how much it helps.

If you’re the one hurting, hear this: Wait one more day. Give yourself 24 hours. Then another.

Because this too shall pass.
